Good things take time, and that’s why it’s been over two years since the launch of our last Single Origin Coffee Liqueur. Today, after many months and sleepless nights (caffeine, right), we are pleased to give you, our faithful congregation, an exclusive first-look at the newest edition to the family: Mr Black Single Origin Colombia.

Mr Black S.O. embodies all we’ve tried to achieve at Mr Black since we started in 2013: a business built around the notion that drinking is fun, coffee is delicious, and we should put those two things together more often. We’re thrilled to be supporting small-scale farmers and local communities as well giving you, dedicated coffee lovers, access to exquisite, sustainably cultivated coffees that have been carefully crafted into the best coffee liqueur in the world.

Our first Origin of this new series comes to us from Finca Villa Betulia in Acevedo, near Huila, in Colombia. It was grown by Luis Aníbal Calderón and his family, who have over 60 years of experience growing coffee. For the past twelve years, the family has been specifically focusing on specialty coffee, making them the perfect partners for the launch of our new Origin series.

The coffee, a 100% Caturra Arabica, was selected for its fine balance of sweet fruit notes and natural ferment flavours. With a distinctive berry, fig and chocolate character, this special edition represents the lighter side of the coffee spectrum when compared to our original coffee liqueur that you all know so well.

This Caturra coffee is processed by Finca Villa Betulia using the “honey” method. After harvesting, some of the protective outer layer is left on the bean after initial pulping, allowing a small degree of natural fermentation to take place and flavour to develop. Honey processing (given its name by how sticky the coffee gets during processing) delivers a uniform and clean flavour, with a well rounded acidity. Complex process, exceptionally delicious.
